Shalomstar Runner

Shabbat shalom, everybody. Let’s praise the name of the Lord and savor this day of rest with our favorite armless terrific athlete. Part of me wanted to make his text bubbles read “בווך אתה ה’ אווהינו מוך העוום” but honestly there’s enough inside baseball going on as it is, without my representing the Shalomstar Runner’s speech impediment via a less-than-widely-used script.

You know I enjoy silly cartooning, but in all seriousness, enjoying the weekly Shabbat services at Wise Temple is a highlight of my week, and I would like to wish you a peaceful Shabbat as the weekend begins.

Captain Ezekiel Gamp

This is Captain Ezekiel Gamp, badass weirdo goblin scientist in the vein of Marie Curie and Paracelsus and Tycho Brahe, whom a friend and I invented while exchanging some RP emails within my post-apocalyptic science-fantasy RPG campaign. Captain Gamp famously discovered that healing magic works best in an etheric ratio of 35 Earth : 30 Water : 20 Air : 5 Fire, while recovering from a particularly indulgent drunken binge. A renowned researcher, arcanist, astronomer, fencer, seafarer, gentleman’s gentleman, and connoisseur of hard liquor, his legacy lives on in both his contributions to magical theory and the Captain Gamp brand of whiskey.

Pokémon: Lady Trainer Serena

A few folks on the Deev have been expressing interest in Serena from Pokémon dressed as a Lady Trainer, and I finally got the itch to deliver on the concept this weekend. Working on the pencils for this piece felt extremely rough, though, like dragging my mind over sandpaper with each line. I’m pleased with how the drawing turned out, but I’ve been away from the game and I felt it. Gotta shake that dust off, fam.

Casino Blackjack Baccarat: A Seafaring, Swashbuckling Magic Robot

Once again, tabletop RPGs spring to the rescue and inspire my artwork. Meet Casino Blackjack Baccarat, a thrill-seeking, seafaring magic robot with a penchant for pizzazz. Here, I’ll let them tell their story in their own words:

Sometimes you make a composite golem and it realizes, “Hey, I’m a golem.” That happened with this enchanter, Roulette Rondello from Cape Fortune, and she was like, “You wanna work with me for a couple decades?” and I was like, “Sure,” and she was like, “Cool.” See, I was the golem.

It was a decent gig, enchanter’s assistant, but I realized I needed to get versed in the ways of the world beyond just doing tasks for room and board in a magic workshop. So I pulled a few strings and started working on a boat, hauling cargo and navigating and fighting pirates. You know, ship stuff.

Roulette and I are still tight, though. We stay in touch and try to help each other out when we can. I send her back alchemy reagents from time to time, and she sends me the occasional arcane prototype. Like this thing. Doesn’t it look fly as hell? Tell me it doesn’t look fly as hell.

C.B.B., Esq.

Cas may be a seafaring swashbuckler, but make no mistake: they’re no pirate. In their view, pirates are enemies of liberty, and their arch-nemesis, the pirate captain Arpeggio Fandango once attempted to steal them. They escaped his sinister grasp by seizing one of his crew and jumping overboard. Cas didn’t need to breathe, but the crewman did.

And here’s a couple bonuses for you: a post-it note warm-up doodle of Cas, original Cas lineart that you can print out and go all coloring-book on, and an AI-assisted retouching of their concept art. Enjoy, and thanks so much so much for checking out my latest things!

80s Star Dawn is Poppin’ Off! (feat. MC Pippy Fresh)

Hey. How you been?

It’s been a minute since I dropped new artwork here, and not a New York minute either. We’re talking a Minnesota minute. With AI prompt-jockey accounts pooping out mass-production fan art every three seconds, and would-be tyrants trying to choke out liberty for the marginalized, and commercial juggernauts milking workers and customers alike, and two wars going on, it’s hard to find the impetus to draw things, but I arted today. Dang, that got unexpectedly real!

But the point is, I had today off work, and I drew Dawn and her short friend exuding their biggest Robin Sparkles and Snow energy. I got back on my game: girly fashion with a little tongue-in-cheek goofiness. And it was fun! I enjoyed pushing the pen and tapping the stylus, and despite our problem-wracked world, there are still many things to rejoice about. So sing a song, dance around, put wraparounds and a sick lid on your penguinesque gladiator animal, and get a little silly. Hope yet remains.
